My best for His glory…

“My determined purpose is to be my utmost for His highest–my best for His glory

-Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest (1992)

Some of you may very well recognize this wonderful book written by Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest. As the best-selling devotional book of all time, as listed on the introductory page, this quotation (above) strikes me at the core of my being.

As I am typing this late at night, I think about what it really means to be my best for His glory. This all really came about in my heart and in my mind after listening to this Sunday’s message from our lead pastor Greg St. Cyr. He said this during his message for our church’s vision Sunday:

“The quality and impact of my life is determined by the depth of my relationship with Jesus…this should be the priority of our lives”

Greg St. Cyr, Lead Pastor, Bay Area Community Church (2023)

So, I ask myself: Am I really devoted to giving God my utmost for His highest? The truth of the matter is, in order to do this, we have to surrender our will for His will. Here are three ways to do this- I encourage you to say, I will devote to God:

  1. All that I am.
  2. All that I have.
  3. Right now.

I struggle with these daily. Why you might ask? I know that I am a servant of the Lord, but every time I miss the mark, the world and the evil one whisper: not good enough-you messed up! Regarding what I have, what do I have to give God? My brokenness? My guilt? My fear? My Anxiety?

Friends, these are the lies of the world and the evil one that only seek to make us feel like we are not good enough to give God anything. If you’ve accepted the gospel, who you are is a disciple of Jesus and a child of the Most High King! And all that you have? Is all from God anyway. He gives us our lives, and all that we have, and you my friend, are indeed enough.

We are reminded of what surrendering our will looks like in the gospel of Matthew from Jesus Himself:

‘Then He said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me.” And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.”

Matthew 26:38-39, NASB

In summary, being your best means giving God your all and surrendering your will.

I’d like to share a personal prayer that I wrote for this occasion:

Lord, thank you for all that I have, and all that I am. In this world, all that I am seems like it’s never enough for anyone. But I am so glad that in You, I am enough. Would You help me as I pledge right here, right now, to be all that I can be, and to give all that I have for Your glory?

Ask yourself this question: Will I make it my determined purpose to be my very best for His glory? Will you give God:

  1. All you are
  2. All you have
  3. Right now?

Blessings, -Wayde
